A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY UNIT... Will Return Off-Off-Broadway
Directed by Katie Hardin, the Halley Feiffer dark comedy plays The Actors Theatre Workshop
Sahboojak has announced an Off-Off-Broadway revival of Halley Feiffer's critically acclaimed, dark comedy, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City.
Directed by Katie Hardin, this intimate and biting Equity Approved Showcase production will run for a strictly limited engagement from April 30 to May 10, 2026 at The Actors Theatre Workshop.
Since its premiere, Feiffer's unapologetic and razor-sharp play has captivated audiences with its brutally honest exploration of grief, family dynamics, and the unexpected places we find human connection. The story follows Karla, a foul-mouthed, twenty-something stand-up comedian, and Don, a wealthy, middle-aged man. The two strangers are forced into an unlikely and explosive proximity when their mothers become roommates in the oncology unit of MSKCC. What begins as an intensely antagonistic relationship blossoms into a profound, hilarious, and deeply moving bond.
Performances will run April 30 - May 10, 2026 at The Actors Theatre Workshop (145 W 28th St, New York, NY 10001).
The cast features Hee-Young Shin, Spencer Lutvak, Kim Hale*, and Shannon Bell.
The creative and production team includes Producer: Hee-Young Shin at Sahboojak LLC, Scenic & Lighting Design: Emily Mustillo, Sound Design: Katie Hardin and Christina Reale, Intimacy Coordination: Lexi Orphanos, Stage Manager: Christina Reale, Assistant Stage Managers: Priya Karki, House Manager: Robert Fertig, and TV Voiceover: Chris Bittner.
