“What Will the Neighbors Say?” and the cell theatre have opened BEAUTY FREAK, a new play by James Clements, directed by Danilo Gambini. Following the opening performance, the cast and creative team gathered at the venue to mark the occasion. Check out photos from opening night.

BEAUTY FREAK centers on Leni Riefenstahl during the creation and promotion of her film Olympia, which documented the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The play unfolds across two time periods, beginning with preparations for the Olympics and continuing through Riefenstahl’s U.S. publicity tour in 1938, set against the backdrop of escalating events in Nazi Germany. The work examines the ethical responsibilities of artists working within oppressive systems.

The cast includes Baize Buzan as Leni Riefenstahl, Sam Hood Adrain as Werner Klingenberg, James Clements as Walt Disney, Peter Coleman as Joseph Goebbels, Luca Fontaine as Max Borgman, Slate Holmgren as Ambassador Hans-Heinrich Dieckhoff, and Keith Rubin as Ernst Jäger.

The creative team includes Suzu Sakai (scenic design), Stephanie Bahniuk (costume design), Yung-Hung Sung (lighting design), Liam Bellman-Sharpe (sound design), Emily Mustillo and Samantha Tutasi (props), and Isabel Criado (production stage manager).
