Michael Laurence's HAMLET IN BED Opens 2/3 Off-Broadway

Hamlet In Bed, the new play/event from Michael Laurence, the playwright/performer of the acclaimed Krapp, 39 (2009 Drama Desk nominee), will begin previews at the SoHo Playhouse (15 Vandam Street, NYC) on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. It will officially open on February 3rd. Directed by OBIE-winning director Lisa Peterson (An Iliad) and featuring OBIE-winner Lisa Emery (Relatively Speaking, Marvin's Room, Abigail's Party, A Kind of Alaska), Hamlet in Bed will end its limited engagement on March 17, 2013.

In Hamlet in Bed, Michael is an actor and adoptee obsessed with two things - finding his real mother, and playing the famous Gloomy Dane. His twin fixations collide when he tracks down Anna, a reclusive former actress-turned-barfly whom he believes to be his actual birthmother, and lures her into a noirish production of Hamlet playing the role of the queen, his mother. Rehearsals expose the complicated inner lives of each actor and bring them ever closer to the slippery truth of their relationship.

Hamlet In Bed is a darkly comic and poignant story about mothers and sons, about what it means to live a life in the theatre, both a generation ago and now, and about families- the ones we're born into, and the ones we find along the way.

Hamlet in Bed's set will be designed by Rachel Hauck, with projection design by Tal Varden, lighting design by Matt Frey, sound design by Matt Tierney, costume design by Clint Ramos, and props by Faye Armon.

Hamlet in Bed will play on the SoHo Playhouse Mainstage Tuesdays through Sundays at 8:00pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00pm, until Sunday, March 17, 2013. The running time is approximately 90 minutes. Tickets are available for $49-$79. SoHo Playhouse Season Subscriptions are available for $99 and include 1 ticket to all 3 SoHo Playhouse shows (The Old Man and the Old Moon, Ingenious Nature, and Hamlet in Bed), a $195 value.
