MONARCH: THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN MUSICAL to Make Off-Broadway Debut at 2026 MITF
Alfonso Molina and Mayu Molina Lehman's musical will play the American Theatre of Actors in June.
"Monarch: The Mexican-American Musical" will be presented at the 2026 Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF). Created by the acclaimed team of Alfonso Molina and Mayu Molina Lehmann, this "highly original theatrical production" will headline the festival's residency at the American Theatre of Actors (ATA) this summer.
Performances will take place on Thursday July 23 at 6:00pm; Friday July 24 at 8:15pm; and Sunday July 26 at 4:00pm.
"Monarch" is a powerful new work exploring the lives of undocumented immigrants through a narrative style reminiscent of LES MISERABLES. The story follows Luis, a beloved handyman who has spent 20 years building a life in the United States, only to become the relentless focus of ICE Officer Castelo. Fearing for his future, Luis seeks sanctuary in a local church, where his journey toward freedom is mirrored by the memories of the Monarch butterfly sanctuary in his native Mexico.
