THE WILD PARTY - Morgan-Wixson Theater

A steamy prohibition tale, steamrolling and roaring its way across the stage, Andrew Lippa's Wild Party was an Off-Broadway gem that garnered an array of industry accolades, including Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Obie awards. Based on Joseph Moncure March's 1928 narrative poem of the same name, this darkly brilliant show features one of the most exciting, pulse-racing scores ever written.

?

Our goal is to create a stylized interpretation of this show using different dance techniques and movement styles without relying on overt sexualization. No nudity, but the cast will have scantily clad moments.

Auditions will be held on both:

Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 1:00pm – 5:00pm,
& Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm

?

Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 7:00pm – 11:00pm (on the stage).
You will be notified by email if you are required for callbacks.

No appointment needed.

Actors only need to attend one day of initial auditions.

Non-equity only. Some pay for all actors.

All auditions, and any necessary callbacks, will be held at the
Morgan-Wixson Theatre.

Street parking available.

Venice Family Clinic’s parking lot is available on weekends and on weekdays after 6 p.m. Do not park at our neighbors AAMCO/Viking Motors or SGI or you will be towed.

PREPARE

For the vocal audition, please prepare two 16-32 bar contrasting CONTEMPORARY musical theater selections, showing range and character.

Please bring sheet music in the correct key with cuts clearly marked; an accompanist will be provided.

Auditionees may be asked to only sing one selection based on time constraints.

?

There will be a short dance combination taught at auditions in groups and revisited at callbacks.

Please bring a change of clothes for dancing following your vocal audition.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

In reference to the character descriptions that follow—most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But, however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, gender fluid, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.

We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities; we encourage Arab, Asian, Black, Caucasian, Latino, Native, and Multiracial actors to audition for all roles. In addition, we will list disability when specific to a character, but are otherwise seeking actors with disabilities as well as non-disabled actors for all roles. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide.

We are actively committed to casting an inclusive show that reflects the community.

Black

Male, 25-35, Vocal Range: F#2-Ab4

African-American.

Burrs

A professional clown. Dangerous and charming all at once. Sexually ravenous and drawn to Queenie like a moth to the flame. Hurts somewhere deep inside, and slowly descends into jealous insanity.

Dolores

A party-goer pitching ideas and hoping to score with Sam. A wild woman of the night.

Eddie

Male, 30-45, Vocal Range Top: Bb2-Eb4

Mae's husband who is perhaps even more dim-witted than she is. A big oaf. Can be a lovable teddy bear but also a quick tempered brute. Adores his wife.

Kate

Female, 20-30, Vocal Range: G3-E5 (Must be able to belt throughout this range. Also should be able to riff in a jazz style.)

A lush. Likes to be the life of the party. Always looking out for number one, and is jealous of Queenie. Sexy, sensual, and confident.

Mae

Female, 25-45, Vocal Range: Ab3-D5

Eddie's wife. Sweet and beautiful, but not particularly bright. Adores her husband and dotes on him.

Max

One of the party goers and a member of the usual gang. He is full of life and energy.

Nadine

Female, 16-18, Vocal Range Top: Ab3-Eb5

The only minor at the party. Waifish and somewhat naïve. She is in over her head and trying to keep up.

Oscar D'armano

Phil's brother and lover who dresses as his twin. A composer and an entertainer in every sense of the word. Very flamboyant.

Phil D'armano

Queenie

Female, 20-30, Vocal Range: F3-F5 (Must be able to belt throughout this range.)

Sam

Busy producer and attention whore. Trying to avoid the outrageous pitches made by Dolores, until it becomes sexual.

Ensemble

3 men and 3 women, all capable of covering roles.

Ensemble members are onstage most of the show and have a lot to do including Jackie, a featured dance soloist, and understudying named characters.

This show contains sexual themes and violence.

We hope you will join us on this spectacular journey and do a rarely done GEM of a show.
