SINGIN' IN THE RAIN and TINKER BELL - Des Moines Playhouse
Auditions for Singin' in the Rain will be held at The Des Moines Playhouse at 6:30 P.M. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020. Auditions for Tinker Bell will also be held this same date. Actors may audition for both shows. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. Those auditioning for Singin' in the Rain must bring a prepared solo; an accompanist will be provided as well as a way to play an accompaniment from an iPod or similar device. Questions about auditions should be directed to Robin Spahr, 515-974-5365.

Singin' in the Rain contains feature roles for 6 men and 4 women, ages 16 and up, plus Ensemble men and women, ages 16 and up. Performances are Mar. 13-Apr. 5, 2020. Where race, ethnicity, gender, age, or other personal differentiations are not demanded by the needs of the script, the Playhouse casts its plays without regard to these attributes. Singin' in the Rain is directed and choreographed by Erin Horst with music direction by Brenton Brown.

To help actors prepare for auditions, Horst will conduct two free audition workshops at The Playhouse. The workshops are not mandatory but will give those auditioning an opportunity to learn some of the tap dance choreography from the show. The dance workshops will be held 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, and 10:00 AM-Noon, Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019. Horst will teach a short dance combination that will be used in the Jan. 6, 2020, audition. Participation in the workshops does not guarantee a role but will acquaint actors with the show and the musical audition procedure used at the Playhouse.

Silent movies are out. Talkies are in! Unfortunately for famed movie star Don Lockwood, his leading lady's comically harsh and squeaky voice is ill-suited for the switch. When their next film is converted into a talking picture, the studio must bring in aspiring actress Kathy Selden to voice all of its female star's speaking and singing parts. Sparks fly between Kathy and Don in this charming love story that will give everyone the same glorious feeling they get when singing in the rain.

The Playhouse, now in its 101st season, is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
