Based on the cult film and with a rocking new score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, School of Rock follows slacker Dewey Finn as he turns a class of straight-A students into an ear-popping, riff-scorching, all-conquering rock band! As they prepare for the Battle of the Bands, can Dewey make them embrace the empowering message of rock?

Rehearsals Begin in January

(Mondays, Wednesdays, some Saturdays)

Shows are March 24 thru April 8

Parts are available for singers and actors. Five of the characters play instruments (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard) in the show.

At the scheduled auditions, Performers will audition in groups.

During each one hour session, performers will sing from the show and (if wanting to be considered for the characters who play instruments) demonstrate their instrument playing skill. Piano will be provided. Amp and speaker provided. Performers bring guitars and/or drumsticks.

Performers will choose between If Only You Would Listen or Stick It To The Man for their vocal audition. If wishing to audition for roles of Dewey, Patty, Summer or Tomika, please be familiar with their audition songs. All copies of music lead sheets and mp3 tracks are available to peruse/download from our website:

Character Breakdown


Dewey Finn (Lead): Male, 14-18 a down-on-his-luck, energetic, wannabe rock superstar. This role must be played by an actor age 18 or under. Basic rhythm and lead guitar skills. Range: B2-E5, E2.


Ned Schneebly (Supporting): Male, 14-18 Dewey Finn’s best friend and pushover roommate. This role must be played by an actor age 18 or under. Range: C3-F#4.

Patty Di Marco (Supporting): Female, 14-18 Ned’s bossy girlfriend. She makes no secret of her hatred for Dewey, constantly berating him for his lack of a proper job and inability to pay rent. Must be played by an actress 18 or under. Range: C4-E5.

Zach Mooneyham (Lead): Male or Female, 8-13 quiet and shy. He was reluctant to be part of the band at first, mostly due to having a very strict father. Comfortable playing lead guitar. Range: A3-C#5 to F5.

Lawrence (Lead): Male or Female, 8-13 polite, proper, and mild-mannered, Lawrence is worried that he is not cool enough to be in the band. Skilled piano player that can improvise and read or play by ear.


Freddy (Lead): Male or Female, 8-13 more rebellious than the other students. Plays onstage drums. Should have basic rhythm skills and music ability. Range: A3-C#5 to F5.


Katie (Lead): Female, 8-13 student at Horace Green; plays onstage bass. Seeking someone with some instrument experience, need not be bass guitar.


Summer Hathaway (Lead): Female, 8-13 educated, clever, and responsible. As the class’ factotum, she thinks mostly of succeeding and earning good grades. Range: B3-D5 to A3 & F5.

Tomika (Supporting): Female, 8-14 the new girl at school, and extremely shy. When she decides to finally let her guard down and sing, Tomika becomes the lead singer in the band. Range: A3-D#5, up to G5.

Marcy, Shonelle, Sophie, Madison (Supporting): Female, 8-13 students at Horace Green who become a part of the band as vocalists or work behind-the-scenes.

Mason & James (Supporting): Male, 8-13 students at Horace Green who join the band as behind-the-scenes helpers.

Billy (Supporting): Male, 8-13 a student at Horace Green, who becomes the band's stylist. Range: B3-C#5, also A3 up to F5.

Featured Roles (Teachers, Parents, Band Members) (Supporting): Males & Females, 13-18


Roles must be played by performers 18 years old and under. All have solo speaking and/or singing parts.
