Guys and Dolls, Jr. is an adaptation of the show considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. Set in Damon Runyon's New York City, Guys and Dolls JR. follows gambler, Nathan Detroit, as he tries to find the cash to set up the biggest crap game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck. Meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for fourteen years without ever getting married. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown. Guys and Dolls JR. takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, but everyone eventually ends up right where they belong. (This is the alternate lyric version of the two act show.)

For Guys and Dolls, Jr. we are casting male and female actors ages 12-19 for the following parts:

Sarah Brown - Female/Lead/Soprano - Gently authoritative “girl next door” with an adventurous side that’s waiting to escape.

Nathan Detroit - Male/Lead/Baritone - A humorous manipulator and businessman.

Miss Adelaide - Female/Lead/Alto - Headliner at Hot Box and Nathan Detroit’s fiancé of 14 years (strong comedic role

Sky Masterson - Male/Lead/Baritone - Slick and charming gambler

Arvide Abernathy - Male/Female/Supporting - Sarah Brown’s grandfather/grandmother head of the Misson Nicely-Nicely Johnson - Male/Supporting/Tenor - Gambler and one of Nathan’s closest associates.

Harry the Horse - Male/Supporting/Baritone - One of Nathan’s associates with a complaining streak.

General Matilda Cartwright - Female/Featured/Mezzo-Soprano - The leader of the Save-a-Soul Mission organization.

Big Jule - Male/Featured - An intimidating hustler from Chicago who is a sore looser.

Lieutenant Branningan - Male/Featured/Spoken - Police officer.

Benny Southstreet - Male/Featured/Baritone - Small time gambler sidekick of Nicely-Nicely.

Hot Box Girls - ( 3; Velma, Angie, and Gladys ) Female/Featured Dancers and Performers/Alto and Soprano - Adelaide’s back-up singers at the Hot Box

Mission Band - ( 4; Agatha, Calvin, Martha, and Bertha ) Mixed/Featured/Various Singing/Dance Ensemble - 4 Male/4 Female/Alto, Soprano, Baritone, Tenor, Bass

Guys and Dolls, Jr. is produced by Ms. Aimee Avery, directed by Mr. Ross Collins, Musical Direction by Mr. Kent Campbell, with Choreography by Ms.Noel Irick.

Guys and Dolls, Jr. Auditioners should be between 12 to 19 years of age, prepare a 1 to 2 minute monologue, 16 bars of an upbeat song or ballad and be dressed to move. Bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided, CD or electronic accompaniment is OK. Please bring headshot and resume if available as well as list of possible rehearsal conflicts.

Guys and Dolls, Jr. will play February 14 th through March 1st, 2020. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7PM and Sundays at 2PM. All tickets are $18.00. Performances are at Fountain Hills Theater on its Youth Stage at 11445 N. Saguaro Blvd. (The Corner of Saguaro and Rand).

ABOUT FOUNTAIN HILLS THEATER Fountain Hills Theater presents 3 regularly scheduled seasons of productions in their two theaters. The Theater’s year-round offering includes Mainstage, Mainstage Too!, and Youth productions. Additionally, special events, community outreach, and educational arts programming for our youth is also offered. The Mainstage (often called the “big”) theater seats 130 and is devoted to medium and large-scale popular musicals and plays including the best of Broadway and Off-Broadway. No seat is more than 35 feet from the stage. The Youth/Mainstage Too! (also called the “little” theater) is a smaller, more intimate 90-seat, thrust style auditorium that offers thought-provoking, inspiring and sometimes challenging productions including Broadway musicals, original plays, musicals, and art works. Most of the youth productions are performed in the more intimate, smaller theater. Both stages often run productions concurrently. Special events are offered throughout the season on both stages as well as in community centers. The Theater has been in operation as a professionally-directed community theater for over 30 years.
