The Rose Center Theater invites performers to submit virtual self-tape auditions for its upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof. Producers are seeking adult performers ages 15+ for all roles, as well as youth performers ages 8–14 for the roles of Shprintze and Bielke.

Set in the village of Anatevka, Fiddler on the Roof is a sweeping, deeply human story of family, faith, love, and survival in a rapidly changing world. Rich with humor and heart, it remains one of the most beloved musicals of all time.

Audition Information

All auditions will be accepted via self-tape only.
There will be no in-person initial auditions.

Submission Deadline:
Friday, January 16 at 5:00 PM PDT
Late submissions will not be considered.

What to Prepare

Vocal Audition
Prepare 32 bars (no more than 1 minute) of a Broadway or Broadway-style musical theater song that best showcases your voice and storytelling ability.

  • Singing from Fiddler on the Roof is welcome but not required

  • Please do not sing a cappella

  • Use piano or karaoke accompaniment

  • Choose material appropriate to the style of the show

Movement / Dance
A dance or movement reel is optional and only recommended if available.

Callback Information

Callbacks will be by invitation only and held in person on Monday evening, January 19 (time TBC).

Important Dates

First Rehearsal: Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026 (time TBC)
Tech Week: February 15–19, 2026

Performances:

  • Fridays: February 20, 27 & March 6 at 7:30 PM

  • Saturdays: February 21, 28 & March 7 at 7:30 PM

  • Sundays: February 22, March 1 & March 8 at 2:00 PM

All performers must be fully available for tech week and all scheduled performances.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are typically held on weekday evenings and select weekends. Performers are called only when needed. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed following casting.

Contract

This is a non-union, civic production.
A stipend will be provided for select roles.
At this time, only local performers will be considered.

Audition Submission Requirements

  • Current color headshot (no black-and-white photos)

  • PDF of résumé

If submitting a self-tape:

  • One (1) video link containing slate and song in a single clip

  • One (1) optional dance or movement reel (if available)

Self-Tape Instructions

  • Begin with a slate including: name, height, location, and age if under 18

  • Perform your audition song with accompaniment (no a cappella)

  • Film in landscape orientation with chest and full face in frame

  • Use strong front lighting (natural light or ring light recommended)

  • Review your video before submitting to ensure clear audio and video

Upload videos to YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, or Dropbox.
Links must be set to public or shareable and not password-protected. Inaccessible links cannot be reviewed.

MOTEL, the Tailor – Male, 18–30. Tenor (E3–F#4). Sensitive, nervous, and lovable with strong comic timing and vulnerability. Moves well.

PERCHIK, the Student – Male, 18–25. Tenor (B2–E4). Intense, idealistic, and charismatic. Strong acting required. Moves well.

FYEDKA, the Russian Soldier – Male, 20–30. Primarily speaking role with featured tenor solo in “To Life.” Russian accent required. Strong dancer preferred.

LAZAR WOLF, the Butcher – Male, 40–60. Baritone (C3–F#4). Strong comedic actor with presence. Moves well.

THE CONSTABLE – Male, 35–60. Non-singing. Strong character actor.

GOLDE – Female, 40–55. Mezzo/Alto (A3–Eb5). Strong actor with sharp comic timing. Moves well.

TZEITEL – Female, 18–20. Soprano/Alto (B3–D5). Strong dramatic actor. Moves well.

HODEL – Female, 16–20. Soprano (B3–E5). Strong dramatic actor with emotional depth. Moves well.

CHAVA – Female, 16. Soprano/Alto. Strong dramatic actor. Ballet or lyrical dance preferred.

SHPRINTZE – Female, 10–14. Soprano/Alto. Few lines; strong stage presence.

BIELKE – Female, 8–12. Soprano/Alto. Few lines; strong stage presence.

YENTE, the Matchmaker – Female, 45–60. Soprano/Alto (F3–F5). Strong comedic actor. Moves well.

GRANDMA TZEITEL – Female, 50–75. Mezzo/Alto (C#4–D5). Strong character actor. Appears in the Dream sequence; doubles in ensemble.

FRUMA-SARAH – Female, 35–55. Mezzo/Alto (C4–Eb5). Very strong actor required. A featured role in the Dream sequence.

ENSEMBLE / CHORUS – Performers of various ages to portray the villagers of Anatevka. Ensemble members may be assigned featured roles.
