42ND STREET - Davidson Community Players
Davidson Community Players announces open auditions for its June 2014 production of 42nd Street, with music by Harry Warren, lyrics by Al Dubin and book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, and directed by Melissa Ohlman-Roberge. This is the story of hard work, being in the right place at the right time, talent and love. 42nd Street is a celebration of Broadway and the people involved in shows. It focuses on aspiring chorus girl Peggy Sawyer, her tap-dancing friends and rivals, and her journey to stardom and is one of the longest running shows on Broadway and a multiple Tony Award winner. Musical hits include, We're In the Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off to Buffalo and 42nd Street. Every audience enjoys watching the underdog succeed! The production will run June 19th -28th.

Auditions:
• Sunday, February 9th at 7:00 pm at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour Street, Davidson.
• Wednesday, February 12th at 7:00 pm at Community School of Davidson High School, 404 Armour Street, Davidson
Only one session is required. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, February 13th by invitation only. All auditionees should prepare 16 bars of a song that shows off their vocal range. A one minute monologue is helpful but not required. Audition pieces should be memorized. Please bring music in the proper key, an accompanist will be provided. A capella singing is NOT recommended. A dance call will follow the vocal audition, please dress comfortably, be prepared to move, and bring tap shoes if you have them. Auditionees should also bring a recent picture, a list of theatrical experience and a list of conflicts for the late April-June time frame. Full rehearsals will begin in late April. While dancers are encouraged to audition, all those cast will have the opportunity to take free tap classes from March through April to prepare for learning dance numbers. Emily Hunter is the choreographer for the show with music direction by John Smith.

Roles are available for actors, singers, dancers and tap dancers ages 14 through adult. The cast includes dancers and non-dancers.
Principal roles include:
Peggy Sawyer (18-30yrs) — A young, starry-eyed, naive and humble chorus girl; must sing, act and dance very well
Billy Lawlor (25-35yrs)— The leading man of ‘Pretty Lady.’
Dorothy Brock (35 – 55yrs) – The aging ingenue
Julian Marsh (35 – 55yrs) The producer
Maggie Jones (25-55yrs)— One of the writers for ‘Pretty Lady’; comedic part
Bert Berry (25-55yrs) — One of the writers for ‘Pretty Lady’; comedic part
Abner (40-70yrs) – A sugar daddy…Texan
Andy Lee (20-35yrs) - dance Supervisor for “Pretty Lady”
Pat Denning (25-60yrs) — Dorothy’s former love.
