Punch Brothers, the Grammy Award-winning quintet featuring mandolinist Chris Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny, and violinist Brittany Haas, kicks off a 28-city U.S. tour at Mayo Performing Arts Center on May 14. Formed in 2006, the band has built a reputation for pushing the boundaries of acoustic music, earning a Grammy for Best Folk Album for All Ashore in 2018. Their most recent album, Hell on Church Street (2021), is a reimagining of bluegrass great Tony Rice's landmark solo album, featuring songs by Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Bill Monroe, and others. The band has also recently turned their attention to The Energy Curfew Music Hour, a musical variety show with two seasons available on podcast platforms.
