Beethoven’s Ninth—with its cries for brotherhood and joy—came from a war-torn time 200 years ago, and this inspiring symphony has never been more relevant than today. This exciting program also introduces you to an astonishing new talent, saxophonist Steven Banks, as he lifts the Black experience from Africa to now in Billy Childs’ saxophone concerto, Diaspora.

Program update: Gregory D. McDaniel, the New Jersey Symphony’s Colton Conducting Fellow, will conduct Tchaikovsky’s Polonaise from Eugene Onegin. Music Director Xian Zhang will conduct Billy Childs’ Diaspora and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, “Choral.”
