The Doo Wop Project to Perform at the Mayo Center, Jan 10

By:

The Doo Wop Project, featuring current and former cast members of Jersey Boys and Motown The Musical, puts a modern day spin on a classic music style when it comes to the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 8 pm. Tickets are $29-49.

Not a show featuring Jersey Boys material and/or songs by Frankie Valli and/or The 4 Seasons, this evening is an homage to classic Doo Wop and the music that was inspired by that sound, honoring songs and groups we hear all the time but maybe more importantly, some that exist only as a memory or somehow got lost along the way or are now relegated to box sets sold on late-night infomercials. It will feature classic hits by every standard for every generation.

Scheduled to perform are Dominc Nolfi (Jersey Boys), Charl Brown (Tony-nominated for his role as Smokey Robinson in Motown the Musical), John Michael Dias (Jersey Boys), Dominic Scaglione, Jr (Jersey Boys) and Dwayne Copper (Motown the Musical, Hairspray). Cast is subject to change.

The Doo Wop Project features songs by Randy & The Rainbows ("Denise"), Thurston Harris ("Little Bitty Pretty One"), The Skyliners ("Since I Don't Have You"), "Speedo", "Gloria" "God Only Knows" and many more classics. In addition, the show will include such classic contemporary songs by Michael Jackson ("The Way You Make Me Feel") and "Valerie," best recognized from Amy Winehouse performances. Taking such contemporary songs and giving them the Doo Wop spin brings a whole new generation to the wonderful music of Doo Wop.
