JERSEY BOY Longoria & Piscopo Pay Tribute to Jersey Artists in 'That's Life!', 8/28

By:

This Saturday at Ceasers, Atlantic City, "Saturday Night Live" funnyman Joe Piscopo will team up with Jersey Boys star Michael Longoria to pay tribute to some of Jersey's greatest talent, says a report in NJ.com.

The event, named for one of Sinatra's hits, "That's Life!" will showcase Piscopo's Frank Sinatra impression, which he perfected during a performance in the mid-80's at a small nightclub, performing as Sinatra and doing covers of classic rock songs by Foreigner, Joan Jett, Talking Heads, the Stones and another Jersey native, Bruce Springsteen. Piscopo will also perform as Springsteen, as well as reprise some of his most famous "Saturday Night Live" characters, including the caffinated "Sports Guy" and Piscopo's David Letterman.

Piscopo will also feature some of his instrumental talent. The comedian plays drums, piano and saxophone, all of which will be used in this upcoming variety show.

Piscopo tells NJ.com: "This is something that I've toyed with doing for years, but I've never had the time, or the courage, to put together before...For the first time, I'll actually be mounting all my characters live onstage, in costume, in a Broadway-type show. Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, all with a full orchestra."

Joining Piscopo onstage for "That's Life" is Broadway star Michael Longoria, whose performance as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys brought him into the spotlight. Longoria will perform some Four Seasons tunes as well as songs by Roy Orbison and Smokey Robinson.

Joining to conduct the ensemble is Joe Muccioli, artistic director of the Red Bank Jazz Orchestra.

Piscopo describes the event as one which is held together by a somewhat patriotic theme-- the idea is to highlight the music that began in the Garden State.

"For me, the narrative is the Jersey theme...I'm a Jersey guy, and I'm singing with the kid that starred in ‘Jersey Boys'."
