East Lynne Theater Company Will Host Youth Theater Camp
The nine-session camp will take place July 20-24 and 27-30.
Registration is now open for East Lynne Theater Co.'s annual Youth Theater Camp for kids ages 11 to 17. The nine-session camp will take place July 20-24 and 27-30, and culminates with a live performance of “Treasure Island: Cape May” on July 30. All levels are welcome; no previous experience is required.
Taught by Workshop Director Sally Bingham, the idea behind the program is for children to become involved in all aspects of producing a show, whether its performing on stage or working backstage. The ultimate goal is to enhance life skills, including public speaking and teamwork, all while having fun in the process.
Bingham has been acting in, directing and writing plays for over 35 years. She was a founding member of Edge Productions and Over The Edge Comedy Improv Group in Philadelphia, and has appeared in many professional theater productions and festivals in Philadelphia and New York.
“I have been teaching theater, improv and team building for adults and children for decades, yet every year, East Lynne Theater Company's summer youth program is always one of my favorite teaching experiences,” says Bingham. “The kids are so enthusiastic and creative, and they really enjoy the process – and even the hard work – it takes to create a full-blown production.”
Sessions take place 1-4 p.m., July 20-24 and 27-30. An open-to-the-public performance of “Treasure Island: Cape May” will take place 7 p.m., July 30. All classes and the performance take place at the Cape May Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May.
“We're proud to be able to provide a safe, nurturing and professional atmosphere for kids to rehearse and perform year after year,” says Mark David Boberick, executive director of East Lynne. “We want kids to have fun while discovering their passion, whether they find it on stage, designing or as a crew member. We wholeheartedly believe that theater should be accessible to everyone.”
Tuition is $250 and due by July 1. Kids under age 11 may join if an older sibling is registered. Class is limited to 15 students. To register or for more information, go to EastLynneTheater.org.
