Set in post-apartheid South Africa in 2019, Kunene and the King follows Lunga Kunene, a no-nonsense Black caregiver, as he provides in-home care for Jack Morris, a stubborn white actor facing a life-changing diagnosis while rehearsing for King Lear. Different in race, class and politics, the two men find unexpected common ground in the words of Shakespeare. Written by Tony winner John Kani, who also stars as Kunene, the play is directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson and also features Edward Gero as Jack Morris and Ntebo as Isithunywa.
