Four Humors Announces April Fools 2012 Fundraiser

Four Humors Theater today announced the beginning of its eighth season with its annual production of April Fools, a celebration of all things foolish. This year's festivities will take place at the Brave New Workshop Student Union in Uptown and will feature a silent auction, a beer and wine bar, and the official unveiling of Four Humors' upcoming 2012-13 season.
Guthrie Theater to Offer Audio Tours Featuring Mayor Coleman and More

In its efforts to continue to promote its public spaces as a year-round welcoming destination, the Guthrie Theater has invited six local celebrities to its recording studio to lend their voices to a revamped and freshly written version of its self-guided audio tour. Available for free download on iTunes or with a $5 iPod rental at the Guthrie box office, the tour offers visitors the choice of one of six voices to accompany them through the building: St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, WCCO-TV news anchor Angela Davis, performer and writer Kevin Kling, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, Cities 97 radio personality Brian "B.T." Turner and actor Sally Wingert.

Harold Pinter's celebrated play, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, appears at the Jungle Theater for the first time and features an all-star cast, including Richard Ooms and Claudia Wilkens as Petey and Meg Boles, and Stephen Cartmell as Stanley Webber, the lone lodger in the Boles' shabby English boarding house. One of the great black comedies of the 20th century, The Birthday Party will be on stage April 6-May 13 at the Lyn-Lake theater, 2951 Lyndale Av. S., in Minneapolis.

Park Square Theatre presents John Patrick Shanley's Tony-award-winning play, Doubt, A Parable, April 20-May 13. The play, which also won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, confronts the issues of hierarchical power, control, uncertainties and doubt. Set in a Catholic school in the Bronx in the 1960s, Doubt tells the story of an old-school, no-nonsense nun who considers charging a charismatic young priest with her unproven allegations. The drama takes place in a school much like the one playwright Shanley attended.

Emmy and Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth will launch her debut world tour in May. The 19-date North American leg of the tour kicks off May 9th in Seattle and concludes in Chenoweth's hometown of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on June 24th. Tickets go on sale in select cities beginning March 9th.

Stages Theatre Company (STC) opens "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett on March 2 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Recognized as a staple of classic English children's literature (published in 1911) the story centers around orphan Mary Lennox and her mysterious cousin Colin, who together share the secret of an old hidden garden on the grounds of the estate. This musical adaptation was created just for Stages Theatre Company and is for ages six and up with a run time of 75 minutes.

Two evenings of repertoire by one of the largest ballet companies in the U.S. will feature 'the best of both classic and contemporary ballet. The four pieces of choreography (three pieces per evening) include a piece anchored by a dazzling pas de deux (Rush), the first recipient of the Rudolf Nureyev Prize for New Dance (ONE/end/ONE), an examination of the vagaries of romantic relationships at warp speed (Indigo), and a beautiful and poignant one-act ballet portraying the relationships of three couples, evoking moods from romantic serenity to agitation and aggression (In the Night).'

Based on last year's campaign, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres will hold a fund drive for the entire month of March to benefit Minnesota FoodShare. The "HUNGER ISN'T SOMETHIN' TO SING ABOUT" FundDrive is the fourth consecutive effort of Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, this time in conjunction with the theatres' production of HAIRSPRAY. The past three fund drives have raised $51,789.00 toward the effort to eradicate hunger in our communities.

Violist extraordinaire Nadia Sirota and will be joined by pianist Michael Mizrahi, composer William Brittelle (piano, electronics, vocals), and a string quartet consisting of MN Orchestra musicians Peter McGuire and Kenneth Freed (violins), Sam Bergman (viola), and Eugena Chang (cello).
