The Guthrie to Screen THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL, 12/15

The Guthrie Theater today announced a one-night screening of the 1992 family favorite film The Muppet Christmas Carol in the Dowling Studio at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 15. Seating will be general admission, and the film is recommended for ages 4 and up. Tickets for this special holiday treat are $5 and are on sale through the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, toll-free 877.44.STAGE and online at www.guthrietheater.org.
Single Tickets for FLASHDANCE and MARY POPPINS Go On Sale 12/7 in Minneapolis

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that individual tickets for Flashdance-The Musical and Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins, both running in Minneapolis in April, will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. At that time, tickets will be sold online through HennepinTheatreTrust.org, in person at the State Theatre Box Office or by calling 1.800.982.2787 or visiting a Ticketmaster Ticket Center. Flashdance-The Musical, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will debut in Minnesota April 2-7, 2013. Mary Poppins, combining the original stories of P.L. Travers with beloved songs from the 1964 Walt Disney film, returns as a special addition to the season April 23-28, 2013. Both shows will play the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis and are presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust as part of their 2012/13 Broadway Across America-Minneapolis Season.

The Guthrie today announced that BEHOLD, its 50th-anniversary one-time gala performance, will be directed by New York-based Peter Flynn, whose extensive credits include directorial work on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in regional theaters. BEHOLD, part of the Guthrie's anniversary weekend celebration, will combine classical text, music, original work, video and dance performed by artists to be announced in the months to come. The event will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

Adapted by Constance Congdon from a translation of Carlo Goldoni by Christina Sibul, this comedy features Steven Epp (Guthrie: A Christmas Carol, The Caretaker; Theatre de la Jeune Lune: actor, writer, director, co-artistic director 1983-2008) as the wily servant Truffaldino and Guthrie favorite Sarah Agnew (Guthrie: Time Stands Still, The 39 Steps; Theatre de la Jeune Lune company member 1995-2001) as the strong-willed Beatrice in the story of a servant scheming to fill his pockets and his stomach by serving two masters at once.

Northrop's Ben Johnson Announces Departure for The United States Artists Foundation

Ben Johnson, Director of Northrop Concerts and Lectures at the University of Minnesota, announces his departure effective January 1, 2013 to accept a new position in Los Angeles as the Director of Programs for the United States Artists Foundation. In this position, Johnson will administer the prestigious USA Fellows program, which awards major $50,000 grants annually to 50 artists who work in film, theater, dance, music, design, visual arts, literature, and American craft. He will be directly engaged with USA Projects, which is an online micro-philanthropy platform for artists to raise funds for the creation of new projects.
Chanhassen Dinner Theatres Welcome THE BEATLES – A TRIBUTE CONCERT, 12/31

On New Year's Eve, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (CDT) will present a debut staging of THE BEATLES - A TRIBUTE CONCERT. This anthology of The Beatles' most popular hits dating from 1963 to 1970 will be performed by Jonny James and the Hall of Fames, a local band featuring the talents of such performers as Jonny James, Mike Menard, Andrew Thornbrough, Matt Riehle, and guesting in will be, Mike McDonough of the 'Rubber Soul' Beatles Tribute band. This concert performance will be celebrated on Chanhassen's Fireside stage for one performance only on Monday evening, December 31.

The Guthrie today announced a slate of events taking place June 22-23, 2013, commemorating the theater's 50th season with options ranging from dinner and dance parties; BEHOLD, an original one-time gala performance; and a Community Celebration Day in which the Guthrie will open its doors for free all-ages activities, classes and behind-the-scenes access to the theater's inner workings. The Guthrie also announced the appointment of Jay Cowles, Margaret Wurtele and Charlie Zelle, the children of founders John Cowles Jr., Philip Von Blon and Louis Zelle as Honorary Chairs of its 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee.

This year CTC is bringing back the holiday classic Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This is the story about a mischievous and grumpy Grinch who hates Christmas so much that he has decided to steal it from his neighbors, the Christmas-loving Whos down in Whoville. With the help of his faithful dog Max and a reality check from the tiny Cindy-Lou Who, the Grinch comes to realize that you can't steal Christmas because Christmas doesn't come from the store, "maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more."
