Jessica Froehlich directs the classic American musical featuring artists with disabilities performing with Unlabeled's unique 'shadow partner' staging at the Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Unlabeled Theatre Company will present its inclusive production of Once Upon A Mattress May 14 - 24 at the Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The production will be directed by Jessica Froehlich and will feature Tiffany Graff (with Emma Steincross) as Winnifred; Andrew Goldblatt (with Ethan Fogel) as Prince Dauntless; Maeve Linkert (with Kris Ecklund) as The Queen; Rachel Moquist (with Natalie McComas) as Lady Larkin; Mason Green (with Adam Arnold) as Sir Harry; and Dave Gulstrand (with Timm Holmly) as The Minstrel.
Unlabeled Theatre creates unified theatre performances - despite society's focus on separate programming and institutions based on abilities and disabilities. Unlabeled casts two people in almost every role. An artist - who has a cognitive and/or physical disability or who is neurodivergent - is paired with a neurotypical "shadow partner." Together, they create each role and performance, together, as a pair. Every partnership is different and unique.
Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the "shy" swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar?
The creative team includes Scenic Design & Costume Design by Lisa Hanson, Lighting Design & Sound Design by Josh Barnd, and Suzanne Reyburn as the Music Director.
