Actors Collaborative Toledo in collaboration with Trinity Episcopal Church presents a staged reading of Winter Rain: Six Images of Thomas Merton. The play is comprised of six monologues performed by six actors, each portraying Merton at different stages of his life. The play begins in 1941 at a railway station as Merton prepares to travel to Gethsemane to join the monastery and concludes with a posthumous monologue after Merton’s untimely and mysterious death in Thailand in 1968.
Thomas Merton was a huge jazz aficionado and to complement the performance local musician Tajj Crowder will perform a prelude of jazz music on the piano with jazz interludes between each of the six scenes.
The six actors portraying Thomas Merton will be Barbara Barkan, Charles Crockett, Angie Gresko, Matt Kizaur, Mark Owen, and Phil Skeldon. The reading is directed byActors Collaborative Toledo’s co-founder Jeffrey Albright.
The play will be performed on Saturday, March 25th at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, March 26th at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 316 Adams St. (corner of St. Clair), Toledo, Ohio 43604.
