Prince of the Pulpit

Detroit, MI–Detroit-based playwright, producer, and cultural visionary Vanessa Lynn proudly announces the Parables Entertainment 20th Anniversary limited run of PRINCE of the PULPIT, a powerful musical exploring faith, legacy, leadership, and the emotional reactions that arise when destiny collides with family tradition. The production will take place September 19–20, 2026 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, commemorating two decades of Parables Entertainment—“Entertainment with HEART since 2006.”

Synopsis: For forty years, Solid Ground Church has stood firm under the leadership of Bishop Aaron Baxter. As he prepares to retire, he appoints Minister Jordan Sanders as his successor—supported by his fiancée, worship leader Noelle. But everything changes when Trent Baxter, the church’s ‘prodigal’ son, returns home to claim the pulpit as his birthright, challenge Jordan’s appointment, and rekindle the romance with his childhood sweetheart, Noelle.

As Trent questions the legitimacy of the incoming pastor, the congregation fractures, divided over its future leadership, forced to decide what it really believes about leadership, loyalty, and calling. Secrets surface, and the pulpit becomes the battleground for destiny, ambition, and divine calling, leaving the Solid Ground congregation facing something churches pray will never happen: a church split, with Solid Ground facing collapse.
Audiences will decide whose side they’re on, while examining the deeper questions behind the turmoil. There’s more than enough suspense to keep audiences second-guessing. The combination of theater, gospel, comedy, and church culture gives PRINCE of the PULPIT the emotional range Lynn’s audiences have come to expect, plus the takeaway–a life lesson or moral to the story, hence the moniker, Parables Entertainment.

Parables Entertainment, LLC’s 20th anniversary production brings together gospel artists, veteran theatrical performers, comedians, and emerging community talent. PRINCE of the PULPIT stars professional marathon runner, actor, and singer, DeLorean Cotton; Marcus Woods, whose credits include Empire and TV One’s Fatal Attraction; and Johdi Jackson, professional singer and Grammy-nominated songwriter. The production features gospel recording artist Bishop Bruce Parham, known for Call on Jesus and Hide Me; veteran actress DeEtta West, whose credits include Kirk Franklin’s A Gospel Christmas and The Piano Lesson; comedian Crystal P., whose performances include Showtime at the Apollo and NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and a special appearance by Dennis L.A. White whose work includes Notorious and BET’s The Family Businesses. The show is directed by Richard Bass, whose credits include Chocolate Kiss I & II and features original music by Dr. Kenneth Wilson, whose Prepare to Meet Him achieved gold-record status.

PRINCE of the PULPIT will be presented for three performances only at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, located at 15801 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI.
