The Sauk, Hillsdale County's Community Theatre, will be hosting an "Introduction to Acting Shakespeare's Text" workshop presented by members of the Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company (PCSC) on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The workshop will be held from 1-4 p.m. at the Sauk Theatre, 240 E. Chicago St. in Jonesville. The workshop is open to anyone in high school and older through adults. The registration fee is $25.To register, call the Sauk Box Office at 517-849-9100.

The PCSC will return to The Sauk on Saturday, Nov. 4 to present their production of William Shakespeare's "King Lear" at 8 p.m. All workshop participants will receive a free ticket to the production. Tickets are available to the general public for $10. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the box office, visiting www.thesauk.org or at the door.

Based in Grand Haven, the PCSC seeks to offer performances of Shakespeare's works to Michigan audiences in a variety of non-traditional theatre venues.

Pigeon Creek Shakespeare employs techniques of theatrical performance such as universal lighting and audience contact to adapt its productions to multiple performance venues, and to actively engage audience members in performance.

The company's goals are to explore the original theatrical practices of the acting companies of Shakespeare's time; to provide high quality productions of works by Shakespeare and his contemporaries to regional theatre audiences; to provide local actors, directors, and stage managers the opportunity to work with these wonderful scripts and to receive training in an original practice approach to Shakespeare's plays; and to maintain an organizational philosophy in which theatre practitioners participate in the administration of the company on a regular basis.

PCSC at The Sauk is sponsored by B's Shop and Fly. The 2017 Sauk season is sponsored by Expressions Photography & Design. The Sauk is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts and their program ArtWorks.
