Ragtime: The Musical Auditions Held At Midland Center For The Arts 6/12-6/14

Open auditions for Ragtime the Musical will be held by Music Society on June 12, 13 & 14 at Midland Center for the Arts, 1801 W. St. Andrews Rd., Midland. Auditions for current Music Society volunteers will be held Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 13 at 1 p.m.; auditions for new Music Society volunteers will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 14 at 1 p.m. Rehearsals will begin in August, 2009 and performance dates for Ragtime the Musical are October 17, 18 & 24, 2009.

Ragtime is a multi-Tony Award-winning musical homage to our society's "melting pot" that celebrates the triumph of the American spirit. Through diverse and energizing music and dance, Ragtime paints a nostalgic and powerful portrait of life at the turn of the twentieth century that retains its relevance even today. Three distinct stories poignantly illustrate history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate.

Guest director Rodger Henderson (Into the Woods, Tommy, Company) and musical director Jim Hohmeyer are looking for an ethnically diverse adult cast, including African-American actors to play two lead roles, and a large African-American chorus. This well-written script and score offer excellent roles, and working with a top-notch production team promises to make this a worthwhile volunteer experience.
