MIAMI DADE COLLEGE KENDALL CAMPUS WELCOMES STAR FROM THE SUPREMES, MARY WILSON,
  DURING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
  ~ Wilson Delivers Motivational Speech Thursday Feb. 16, 11:15 a.m. ~

A vision of musical stardom that began in the cold winters of
Michigan, a successful singing and acting career both on stage and on screen,
and most recently a voice found in writing is what describes Mary
Wilson, former member of The Supremes group. This legendary Motown artist
will be one of the main highlights in a broad program presented by Miami
Dade College during Black History month in February, where she will
present her "Dare to Dream" motivational speech Thursday, February 16,
11:15 a.m. at the Kendall Campus, 11011 S.W. 104th Street, McCarthy
Theater, Room 6120, Miami.

In her lecture, Wilson will talk to MDC students about reaching goals
and triumph over adversity. She will speak from a personal point of
view telling her audience about the hardships she endured on the road to
success and how important it is to always remember where you came from.

Her dreams to become successful inspired Wilson to start with
Florence Ballard and Diana Ross what became the most successful female singing
group in recording history, The Supremes. She grew up in the tough
Brewster Projects in Detroit and as a teenager she befriended the other
young girls with similar aspirations. They eventually became The Supremes,
one of America's most prolific successes, and helped to establish the
unique "Motown Sound," becoming the most successful female group in the
history of pop music.

When The Supremes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in
1988, Wilson shared the stage with Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones
and Ringo Starr and George Harrison of the Beatles. This talented lady
also represented The Supremes when they received their own star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Supremes officially disbanded in 1977. Wilson
later moved on to becoming a successful actress, starring in Beehive in
1988, and more recently, in a national tour of Duke Ellington's
Sophisticated Ladies. She has also played key roles in feature films,
television and documentaries.

After 30 years of being a performer, she graduated in May, 2001 from
New York University with an Associate of Arts degree, fulfilling her
mother's dream that one of her children would graduate from college. To
chronicle her long stream of success, Wilson became a best-selling
author with her autobiography, Dreamgirl...My Life as a Supreme." On the
national best-seller lists, Dreamgirl sold more than 250,000 copies in
hardback, received rave reviews and became one of the most successful
autobiography of all time. Her second book, Supreme Faith...Someday We'll
Be Together, offers a closer look at her experiences with The Supremes
and beyond.
