Penobscot Theatre Company is now registering youths aged 4-15 for its upcoming Dramatic Academy production of Harriet the Spy. After-school classes will begin January 5 and run every Tuesday and Thursday until March 17. At the end of the winter session, students will perform Harriet the Spy, fully produced, at the historic Bangor Opera House on March 18, 19 and 20. Registration will close January 6.

Harriet the Spy is the story of irrepressible Harriet M. Welch - only child, aspiring writer and neighborhood sneak. Harriet records all of the things she sees on her neighborhood spy route in her trusty notebook. When her notebook goes missing during a game of tag and is found by her classmates, Harriet is in for a rude awakening, without her beloved nanny Ole Golly to help navigate the hairy situation.

"The dramatized version of Harriet the Spy is an incredibly fun - yet faithful - adaptation of the treasured book," said Amy Roeder, Penobscot Theatre Company's director of education. "From Harriet to Sport and Janie to tomato sandwiches, all of the familiar elements of the story are packed into this show!" Leslie Brody dramatized the story from the novel by Louise Fitzhugh and it is produced by special arrangement with Plays for Young Audiences of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Harriet follows the successful Dramatic Academy production of Shuddersome: Tales of Poe this fall.
