This isn’t Judy Garland’s Wizard of Oz. The Chicken Coop drops the Baum on Louisville with this original adaptation of the classic American myth. Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale for The House Theatre of Chicago, this fresh take on the classic story goes beyond the technicolor to explore a dark and dangerous Oz. Thrust into a battle between good and evil, Dorothy Gale must grow from the Kansas farm girl she has always been to the Witchslayer she is fated to become. Toto, the Tin Woodsman, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion accompany our heroine as she dons a pair of bloody boots and sets out to find her way home. The depth of the story is still found in what it really means to have a home, brain, heart and courage. Incorporating multi-media, puppetry, and folk music, this promises to be a one-of-a-kind trip over the rainbow.
*Disclaimer, this is not The Wizard of Oz you know, this show explores some dark themes and has what could be considered disturbing violence.
