In partnership with the Kentucky Department of Education, the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2013 Institute for ECE (Exception Child Education, or Special Education) & Arts Integration for Kentucky public school teachers of ECE and Arts & Humanities in grades 3-8.

The Institute will consist of three following components:

• Six-Hour Professional Development Workshop: Teachers will attend a six-hour workshop on March 2, 2013 (10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern time) at Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center in Elizabethtown. Trainers including members of the VSA Kentucky Teaching Artist Roster and an ECE specialist will lead teachers through lessons that integrate Arts and ECE standards, processes and goals.

• Mini-Residencies: In March through May of 2013, teachers will each have a mini-residency with a teaching artist. The structure of the two-day residencies will include pre-planning, planning each morning, team teaching, reflection and coaching, as well as a school-wide professional development session developed and led by the visiting artist and the participating teacher team.

• Follow-Up Summit: On August 17, 2013 in Elizabethtown, teaching teams will reconvene for a three-hour summit meeting to share what they learned and implemented including examples of lesson plans, student work, and photo/video documentation. Teaching Artists will work with teachers with additional focus on formative and summative assessment within the art forms.

This program is designed for teacher teams consisting of an ECE teacher and an Arts teacher from the same school. Ten teams will be selected. The deadline to apply is February 11, 2013. This program is provided under a contract with The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The Kentucky Center reserves the right to cancel this program pending changes in funding or low enrollment.
