Winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, The Gin Game by D.L. Coburn is presented by Interact Theatre Company in partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library’s LA MADE cultural enrichment program. This performance is part of ITC’s LA MADE Prize Winners series, which highlights landmark works of American theatre through free public presentations.
Set in a quiet nursing home, the play centers on Weller Martin and Fonsia Dorsey, two residents whose tentative friendship unfolds over a series of gin rummy games. What begins as polite companionship gradually reveals deeper truths about loneliness, pride, vulnerability, and survival. Both sharp-edged and tender, The Gin Game balances humor with emotional insight as the stakes rise far beyond the card table.
Starring Broadway veterans Carolyn Mignini and Steve Vinovich, the fully-staged reading is directed by Anita Khanzadian and produced by ITC Artistic Director Barry Heins and ITC Managing Director Kristen Egermeier.
