Slap Ass Friday is a puberty play that follows Kay as she awkwardly and courageously grows into a child learning what it means to become a woman. The story begins on the infamous "Slap Ass Friday"—a day in middle school when girls’ bodies were made into a game. With humor and heart, Kay navigates the absurd, painful, and tender moments of adolescence the only way she knows how: by going through it. Written and performed by Kaitlyn Gonzalez and directed by Mary Tomei, Slap Ass Friday is rooted in real stories. Over the past two years, Kaitlyn has gathered experiences from women in her life, tracing the emotional and cultural echoes of girlhood not just in the early 2010s, but across generations and genders.
