Written by Deanne Stillman the play is a series of monologues for women, each with its own name, each of which reflects certain desires and longings, fulfilled and not, all revolving around California, ground zero for the American Dream. It portrays the lives of seven figures who have staked their claim on the western edge of the country, as far as you can go without heading into the sea. Some of the characters in this new play are relative newcomers; others are celebrities and/or from families which have been in California for generations. All are lost and perhaps found souls, stranded in one way or another, hoping to reinvent themselves in the land of magic and beauty and sun where possibilities are everywhere and today is the first day of the rest of your life. Or so the myth proclaims.
