Sierra Madre Playhouse continues its inaugural opera series with Domenico Cimarosa's short comic intermezzo Il maestro di cappella, reimagined and produced by Source/Filter Music. Baritone Caleb Yanez Glickman stars as a self-important conductor who lectures and berates his orchestra while becoming hilariously tangled in language, rhythm, and pride, in a new hybrid English–Italian libretto by Source/Filter Artistic Director Britta Sterling. Performed without microphones by a 17-piece orchestra, the production is preceded by a first-half program of works for stage and screen by Italian and Italian-American composers, featuring soloists Rachel Yeo, Rae Shrum, and Eric Castro, alongside pianist Milena Gligić.
