Tonoccus McClain Brings Solo Show VERSIONS OF HER To Hollywood Fringe Festival
The multimedia solo show runs at the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre, featuring audio from interviews with opera singer Kerry Walsh.
Veteran theatrical artist Tonoccus McClain is set to make his debut as a writer and producer at the 2026 Hollywood Fringe Festival with his new multimedia solo piece, Versions of Her. Running June 7–26 at the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre, the production marks a deeply personal milestone for the seasoned performer.
McClain, whose extensive career includes over 2,400 performances on the North American tour of Disney’s The Lion King, appearances with the LA Opera (Omar), and performances at three Academy Awards ceremonies, is using his first self-produced work to explore the power of documentary theater.
Versions of Her is an intimate, one-person performance woven from a series of recorded interviews between McClain and his close friend, Kerry Walsh—a celebrated opera singer and actor navigating a terminal illness and multiple autoimmune diagnoses. The multimedia experience integrates actual audio clips from these interviews, allowing McClain to bear witness to Walsh's journey with a blend of vulnerability, theatrical storytelling, and disarming humor.
“I had performed as an actor at the Fringe in the past and thought it was the perfect venue for this kind of cutting-edge work,” said McClain. “Though I always aim to ask something of my audience beyond their entertainment, this piece has been the most demanding, but ultimately the most profound to date.”
The driving urgency behind the production is rooted in real-time friendship. Walsh is hoping to be in the audience for the opening night performance.
“Kerry is still here,” McClain noted. “That’s the deadline I’m working against—and it’s why this piece exists.”
