N. Richard Nash’s The Rainmaker
is a romantic drama set in a Depression-era Western town suffering from a severe drought. It centers on Lizzie Curry, a "spinster" with low self-esteem, whose family is concerned about her finding a husband. A charismatic con man, Starbuck, arrives promising rain for $100 and helps Lizzie recognize her own beauty and worth.
