Risa Finkel returns to the great outdoors of Long Island to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation in her new show Grist for the Mill, June 12, 13, and 14. With arrangements and musical direction by Paul Greenwood and Michael Rice, Rex Benincasa on drums, Ritt Henn on bass, and Mike Rosengarten on guitar, banjo, and mandolin, the show is directed by Geoff Stoner, with technical direction by Kelly Wohlford. Creative consultant is David Friedman.

Finkel will offer an eclectic program of songs, both familiar and new, combined with stories and humor, that celebrate freedom, family, love, opportunity and community. Before and after the show, there will be a gathering with light fare and beverages. Proceeds will benefit the preservation of the Lefferts Tide Mill, the nation’s best preserved 18th century tidal gristmill, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lefferts Tide Mill and Preserve is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established to preserve this 18th century treasure in its original location and to maintain the preserve as a sanctuary for native and migratory waterfowl and as an important contributor to the biodiversity of the surrounding area. Please Note: The Tide Mill is a historic structure with uneven surfaces. Access to the site requires walking approximately 300 yards over uneven terrain (transport by golf cart is also available) and navigating a flight of stairs. Guests should wear appropriate footwear and take care while moving about the property.

Risa Finkel
Vocalist
Risa Finkel has had a long and illustrious career. She has appeared on stages and in concert venues on Long Island, in New York City and around the country as an actress and as a singer of music ranging from the American Popular songbook, to Broadway and opera. In addition to her love of performing and singing, Finkel has always had a great interest in story-telling. Over the years, she has found that the best way to combine all of these talents and interests is in the art form of cabaret. Grist for the Mill follows Finkel's two sold-out shows outdoors at Long Island’s Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve: A Grand Night For Singing, June 28, 2024, and Sunday in the Park with Risa, October 20, 2024.
Paul Greenwood
Musical Direction/Arrangements/Piano
Paul Greenwood is a New York City-based pianist, musical director, and arranger known for his work in cabaret and jazz, frequently performing at venues like Don't Tell Mama, Birdland, and Pangea. He serves as a musical director for performers such as Barbara Bleier and Austin Pendleton, Anita Gillette and Penny Fuller, and Randa McNamara, specializing in cabaret, standards, and theater-style performances.
Michael Rice
Musical Direction/Arrangements
Michael Rice is a New York City-based musical director, composer, and arranger known for his extensive work in Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theatre. He was the original musical director and arranger for the long-running Off-Broadway hit Nunsense, which won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. Rice has served as a conductor or pianist for several major Broadway and National Tours productions, including Cats, Peter Pan, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Jesus Christ Superstar.  He frequently works with vocal artist Klea Blackhurst and has arranged music for operatic soprano Deborah Voigt.
Rex Benincasa
Drums
Rex Benincasa is a world music specialist. As a drummer and percussionist, he has performed with ALBA Consort, Ensemble Caprice, The Bishop’s Band, Seraphic Fire, The Sebastians, Flamenco Latino, Carlota Santana Spanish Dance, Zorongo Flamenco Dance, the Grammy Orchestra, and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. He has recorded CDs and movie soundtracks for numerous artists including Philip Glass, Sesame Street, NFL Films, Angelica Women’s Chamber Choir, and the Ivory Consort. Broadway appearances include Fosse, The Full Monty, Flower Drum Song, Man Of La Mancha, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray, The Color Purple, Billy Elliot, and Motown among many others.
Ritt Henn
Bass
Ritt Henn plays bass, writes songs, and lives in New York City. He’s played Off-Broadway, toured the U.S., Europe, and Asia, been a featured performer with Carnatic global fusion violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam, and played on the Grammy-nominated album, To Steve With Love: Liz Callaway Celebrates Sondheim. In addition to accompanying and recording with Renee Katz, he’s worked with Kathleen Turner, Ann Hampton Callaway, Jeff Harnar, Tanya Moberly, Amanda McBroom and Michele Brourman, Andrea Marcovicci, Karen Mason, Karen Akers, Woody Regan, Len Cariou, Penny Fuller, Anita Gillette, and Chuck Berry. Ritt has released four CDs of original music and a DVD of short films, produced over 200 episodes of ManBassBoxTV, and won both Bistro and MAC Awards for his work as a solo artist. He also whistles and plays the ukulele.
Mike Rosengarten
Guitar/Banjo/Mandolin
Mike Rosengarten is a master of guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Mike was last seen on Broadway as the Associate Music Director as well as Guitar 2 / Keys 2 player for The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, and before that played Guitar 1 for the viral smash hit Be More Chill. He recently made his Carnegie Hall debut playing with Jon Batiste on his new work American Symphony. He plays regularly with several bands and artists, both live as well as in the studio. You may also recognize him from his recurring TV appearances on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. A New York native, he now lives in Manhattan with his wife, daughter, son, dog, and a cat. He is allergic to the cat, but she is family now, so what can you do? 

Creative Team

Geoff Stoner
Director
Geoff Stoner is a director, cabaret performer, and actor. As an actor, Stoner most recently appeared in A Poster Of The Cosmos and Breakfast At The Track, by Lanford Wilson at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, and will return to Edinburgh in August 2026. Geoff’s cabaret shows include A Short Visit Only, based on the life and songs of Noël Coward; You’re The Top, featuring the songs of Cole Porter; and Words Wit Music, his slice-of-life account of growing up in small-town Connecticut. Stoner studied acting with Uta Hagen and Wynn Handman. He has also directed numerous cabaret group and solo shows around New York City.
David Friedman
Creative Consultant
David Friedman is a film and theatre composer, songwriter, author, lyricist and conductor based in New York City. He received a 1997 Backstage Bistro Award for Composer of the Year and a 1997 Johnny Mercer Award for Songwriter of the Year, and a Special Lifetime Achievement Award at the 26th Annual MAC Awards. His oratorio, King Island Christmas, won a Frederick Loewe Award and Dramatists Guild Award. David's musical Desperate Measures won the 2018 Drama Desk Award for Best Music and Best Lyrics (Peter Kellogg) as well as the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off Broadway Musical and the Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Musical.
Kelly Wohlford
Technical Director
Kelly Wohlford is currently Chief Technical Director at NYC’s Don’t Tell Mama, overseeing a staff of lighting and sound designers who supply technical and creative expertise to their roster of cabaret performers, as well as overseeing all technical systems for both cabaret rooms and the world famous piano bar. She has worked with some of the most important figures in music today. She also engages in a variety of freelance musical activities including session musician, voice-over recording talent, vocal coaching and instruction, music consulting, song writing, arranging, and host/creator of Don’t Tell Mama’s monthly Jazz Jam.
