Bellport Playcrafters Will Perform YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU This Spring
Julie Lorson directs the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy at Christ Episcopal Church on Long Island
The Bellport Playcrafters will bring in veteran director and performing arts power-player, Julie Lorson to helm their spring production: the comedic masterpiece, You Can't Take It With You.
Running from May 29th through June 7th at Christ Episcopal Church, this production marks a definitive "leveling up" for the historic troupe, blending their deep-rooted community legacy with a sharpened, professional creative vision.
Written by the legendary duo George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic introduces audiences to the Sycamores—perhaps the most delightfully eccentric family in theatrical history. In a world obsessed with status and "making it," the Sycamores choose joy, fireworks, and ballet instead.
"This play is a love letter to individuality," says director Lorson. "In an era where everyone is stressed about the 'hustle,' the Sycamores remind us that happiness matters more than money. We are leaning into the fast-paced, ensemble energy of this script to give the Bellport community a show that is as heartfelt as it is hilarious."
The Bellport Playcrafters have long been the backbone of the local arts scene, but this production signals a commitment to higher production values and more rigorous storytelling. Despite the "organized chaos" that often mirrors the play itself—the production sports a powerhouse ensemble which includes Grandpa: Bob Budnick, Penelope: Meredith Spencer, Paul: Lou Descalzo, Ed: Jose Tese, Essie: Marisa Bordowitz, Alice: Morgan Faye Neuhedel, Kolenkhov: Peter Harrington, Mr. DePinna: Joe DiPietro, Donald “Donna”: Dorit Margolit, Rheba: Marianne Schmidt, Tony: Alex Schiano, Mr. Kirby: John Allan, Mrs. Kirby: Linda Pentz, Henderson/The Man: Lon Shomer, Mac: Leo Pompeo, Jim: Cedric Pompey, and Gay Wellington/Grand Duchess Olga Katrina: Eugenie Bisulco.
