For five generations Mariachi Vargas has endured as the quintessential mariachi, appearing in more than 200 films and making numerous recordings. Often billed as “El Mejor Mariachi del Mundo, or “The Best Mariachi in the World,” the group of 13 musicians and vocalists was formed in 1987 by Don Gaspar Vargas in the Mexican village of Tecalitlán.
