MEMPHIS To Conclude The Black Repertory Theatre's Second Season Image

The 2010 Tony® Award-winning Best Musical, MEMPHIS rocks the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Theatre, 3201 Southwest Trafficway in the Science and Technology Building, Kansas City, MO 64111, May 31 - June 24, 2018, for a limited engagement!

Tickets to MEMPHIS are on sale now, and are available online at BRTKC.org For additional information about the production, visit The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City website at BRTKC.org.

The critically-acclaimed musical MEMPHIS won four 2010 Tony Awards® including Best Musical, Best Original Score (David Bryan and Joe DiPietro); four Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Music (David Bryan) and four Outer Critic Circle Awards including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Score (David Bryan & Joe DiPietro) and Outstanding Choreography (Sergio Trujillo).

MEMPHIS takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50's, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun (Patrick Lewallen) falls in love with everything he shouldn't: rock 'n' roll and an electrifying black singer Felicia Farrell (Briana Woods). MEMPHIS is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever.

Filled with high-octane dancing, songs that perfectly capture the era, and an absorbing tale of fame and forbidden love, the show offers soaring emotion and roof-raising rock 'n' roll.

Theatre Artistic Director, Damron Armstrong, proclaims, "When the Black Rep takes on a project as big as this show, I have every confidence that our commitment to consistent artistic excellence will win the day. We try to create a family atmosphere for all our actors, crew and front and back of the house operators, and a show like MEMPHIS just re-enforces what supporting local actors can look like in our community. With a focus on the underproduction works featuring African American contributions and where our paths meet."
