Mildred's Umbrella Theater Reveals All-Female 25th Anniversary Season
The season will present Houston premieres of COLLECTIVE RAGE and ANTHROPOLOGY at Spring Street Studios.
Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company will celebrate its 25th anniversary season in 2026-2027 with two bold, female-driven productions new to Houston audiences and two all-female casts! There will also be a reading series.
The season opens with the Houston premiere of Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties by Jen Silverman, directed by Associate Artistic Director Rhett Martinez. The production runs September 3–19, 2026, at Spring Street Studios #233.
Collective Rage follows five very different women — all named Betty. One is rich, one lonely, one charismatic, one lovelorn, and one spends her time working on her truck. When one Betty decides to stage a play, their lives collide “at the intersection of rage, love, and the thea-tah.” Wildly funny, fiercely queer, and unapologetically theatrical, the play explores identity, desire, and connection in unexpected ways.
(And yes — the full title really is:Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties; In Essence, A Queer and Occasionally Hazardous Exploration; Do You Remember When You Were In Middle School And You Read About Shackleton And How He Explored the Antarctic? Imagine the Antarctic As a Pussy and It's Sort of Like That.)
The second production of the season is Anthropology by Lauren Gunderson, directed by Artistic Director Jennifer Decker. The show runs February 4–27, 2027, also at Spring Street Studios #233.
In Anthropology, coder Merril creates an AI version of her younger sister Angie, who disappeared a year earlier. As the digital recreation begins uncovering new clues about Angie's disappearance, the play transforms into a suspenseful and emotionally charged thriller about grief, technology, and human connection.
Founded in 2001, Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company is dedicated to empowering women in the theatrical arts through innovative and adventurous productions.
