Maui OnStage presents their upcoming production of The Judas Kiss. Written by David Hare, this is the Hawai’i premier of this dramatic and engaging show. The Judas Kiss is being presented in a minimalist theater style, (similar to MOS’ previous production of Misery) which strips away excessive sets, costumes, etc. to focus on the characters, story, and acting.
In 1895, Oscar Wilde’s career had reached its pinnacle of success. His greatest work, The Importance of Being Earnest, was a sensation in the West End, and he was celebrated across London. However, by summer Wilde would be serving a two-year hard-labor prison sentence for “gross indecency”. The Judas Kiss explores the rise and downfall of Oscar Wilde. While exploring Wilde’s relationship with Lord Alfred ‘Bosie’ Douglas that led to his ill-fated trial, The Judas Kiss shows Wilde’s life on the eve of his arrest, and then after his release from jail- penniless and in exile. This is a captivating portrait of Oscar Wilde and his willingness to give up his life for an unworthy love.
The Judas Kiss will play for one weekend only: Thursday-Saturday, 4/27-29, 7:30pm, and Sunday, 4/30, at 3:00 pm at The Historic Iao Theater, 68 Market St, Wailuku, HI 96793. Tickets range from $25-$35, and can be purchased online at www.mauionstage.com.
