The young Prince Myshkin returns to a long-term hospitalization in Switzerland penniless to St. Petersburg back and take the train to the rich Rogozhin, which is driven by a dark passion for Nastasya, a "fallen" woman. The baseless, unrealistic by his illness and naively believing in the goodness of human prince who is depicted as a kind of Russian Don Quixote, Nastassja also expires, but in another way: He wants to save. Between her and the young Aglaia he is himself part of a network of physical and sexual addictions, injury, obsession and inability to relate, which eventually ends with Rogoshins murder of Nastasya. Myshkin solidifies in the arms of the murderer in a state between delusion and tenderness.
