Arts Bonita Presents Special First Look At Jodie Fox’s New Original Musical VELVET CURTAIN

Arts Bonita will present a special first look at Velvet Curtain, a brand-new original musical written by local playwright and composer Jodie Fox, on Sunday, May 31 at 1pm. A comedic musical set in 1926 New York City, Velvet Curtain follows a struggling historic theatre fighting to survive after a rehearsal crisis forces unexpected change behind the scenes.
When an ambitious woman steps forward as one of the city's earliest female directors, she must unite a spirited and unconventional cast of performers to save the theatre - as they explore what makes live performance matter in the first place.
Fox says, "Velvet Curtain is a love letter to the people who keep theatre alive, onstage, offstage, and behind the scenes. We are thrilled to share the songs that carry the emotional core of Velvet Curtain - inviting the audience to step inside the story with us as it is being built!"
This unique presentation offers audiences a concert-style preview of the musical's standout songs, woven together with narration and select scenes that bring the story to life. The performance features a talented regional cast including Lorelai Vega, Landon Libbey, Christian Conn, Nydia Brown, Eric Ortiz, Lauren Miller, Matt Schwabauer, and Sage Meyers.
Composer and lyricist Jodie Fox is a Florida-based theatre artist and Southwest Florida Poetry Slam Champion whose original music has been featured on numerous television broadcasts worldwide. She wrote the complete score (book, lyrics, and music) for Velvet Curtain, an increasingly uncommon achievement in contemporary musical theatre development. This event is ideal for theatre lovers, performers, artists, educators, and anyone interested in experiencing how a new musical comes to life from the inside out.
