New Dramatists' 7-Year Residency gives playwrights a long-term artistic home in New York City with free play development resources, including readings, workshops, the Playwrights Lab and a community of roughly fifty resident writers, though no cash stipend. Any U.S. citizen or legally authorized resident playwright may apply by submitting two full-length plays (read blind) and a bio during a summer window capped at 700 applications; a rotating seven-person panel reads over ten months and selects about five new residents each June. The organization aims for a 70/30 mix of NYC-area and national residents; the 2026 window closed after reaching its cap on August 3, 2026.
