BREAKDOWN

SPECIAL NOTE: In reference to the character descriptions below – the characters in this show are on the binary and written with he/him or she/her pronouns as you will see in the following descriptions. However, we seek to be as inclusive as possible and ask gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character, but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or if there are any accommodations we can provide.

RILEY: Female Identifying, 17. The recently-elected team captain of the Tigers cheerleading squad, enthusiastically obsessed with getting the team to Nationals for the first time in the school’s history. Inspired by and devoted to cheerleading, Riley is determined to keep her eye on the prize at any cost. VOCAL RANGE: Effortless belt/mix to F#5.

CAIRO: African American, Female Identifying, 17: Riley’s best friend. Incredibly popular, used to easily getting everything she wants, and rarely takes anything seriously. Despite her carefree façade, she’s not as empty-headed as the other girls might think. VOCAL RANGE: Effortless belt/mix to G5.

KATE: Female Identifying, 16. An ex-gymnast who only joined the squad to be closer to her best friend, Chess. Kate is sarcastic, angst-ridden, and sees cheerleading as an insulting replacement for gymnastics. Fiercely loyal and unconcerned with popularity. VOCAL RANGE: Mezzo with folk sensibility.

ANNLEIGH: Female Identifying, 16. Genuinely kind-hearted, openly religious, and dedicated to living a morally sound lifestyle. Often burdened by taking care of her alcoholic step-sister and repressing her sexual urges for her boyfriend, Clark. VOCAL RANGE: Effortless belt/mix to F5.

REESES: Female Identifying, 17. The Tigers’ well-meaning mascot who dreams of being on the squad and has worked for it her whole life. Doesn’t quite fit the stereotypical cheerleader mold and knows it, but still daydreams of being an “it” girl. VOCAL RANGE: Belt/mix to D5.

FARRAH: Female Identifying, 15. Annleigh’s step-sister, an excessive drinker and the team’s resident “hot mess.” Often overtly rude to distract from her insecurities and unhappiness. VOCAL RANGE: Belt/mix to C5.

CHESS: Female Identifying, 17. An almost-Olympian who suffered an intense knee injury that forced her to drop out. Upbeat and friendly but struggling with an over-reliance on pain medication. VOCAL RANGE: Effortless belt/mix to F#5.

MATTIE: Female Identifying, 14. The youngest, newest, and most innocent member of the team. Adorable, polite, and optimistic about the future. VOCAL RANGE: Belt/mix to D5.

CLARK: Male Identifying, 18. A handsome jock. Annleigh’s loving, patient, and dedicated boyfriend. VOCAL RANGE: Boyband baritenor to A4.

EVA: Latinx, Female Identifying, 16. The highest ranked cheerleader in the state who joins the Tigers through unique circumstances. Sarcastic, street smart, and not here to be messed with. VOCAL RANGE: Belt/mix to D5.
