THEATRICAL OUTFIT 2021-22 SEASON - EQUITY VIDEO SUBMISSIONS

SPT $508 weekly minimum (SPT 6)


SEEKING

Equity actors and singers for various roles in the upcoming 2021-22 season. (See breakdown.) Local Atlanta actors particularly encouraged to submit.

Theatrical Outfit will be conducting this season's Equity Principal Auditions solely and entirely via video submission, created and submitted by the actor.

Performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages, as well as performers with disabilities are encouraged to submit auditions.


INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE SEE BREAKDOWN FOR PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS. Submit using a link to Vimeo, YouTube, or any other online video hosting software. Include the link, a password (if private), & any additional instructions. Do not email video files as attachments or download links to Dropbox, etc. List “EPA Submission 21/22” & your name in the subject line. Include a digital copy of your headshot/resume & a short paragraph with additional information you’d like us to know.

Prepare a video of yourself performing a 2-3 minute contemporary monologue. At the beginning, state your name & what you are going to perform.

1. An Iliad

SETTING: An empty theatre that conjures the battlefield at Troy

Has anything really changed since the Trojan War? Visionary creators Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare have reimagined Homer’s tragic poem with dazzling theatricality and dark humor. As we emerge from a global pandemic, join us for this sweeping account of humanity’s unshakeable attraction to war and the heroes that rise and fall in times of chaos. This one-person show featuring a live musician “Relates An Age-Old Story That Resonates With Tragic Meaning Today” (New York Times).

ROLES (1)

THE POET: Any age, gender identity, ethnicity - this character is an embodiment of Homer, who is doomed to retell the story of the Trojan wars over and over again. Exceptional skill with language, wry sense of humor, deep connection to the pathos of history. We are looking for someone who embodies this perspective through the lens of 2021.


2. BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY

SETTING: London & Devonshire

The play’s afoot! Comedic genius Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo) transforms Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles into a murderously funny adventure. Sherlock Holmes is on the case as the male heirs of the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. To find the killer, Holmes and Watson must brave the desolate moors before a family curse claims its newest heir. Watch as our intrepid investigators try to escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises, and deceit as five actors deftly portray over forty characters. Does a wild hellhound prowl Devonshire? Can our heroes discover the truth in time? Join the fun and see how far from elementary the truth can be.

3. BRIGHT HALF LIFE

SETTING: Various locations, spans over 40 years of a romantic relationship

What if life came with a rewind button? Pulitzer Prize finalist Tanya Barfield brings the world a kaleidoscopic new play about love, heartbreak, skydiving and the infinite moments that make a relationship. Bright Half Life shares the four-and-a-half-decade story of Vicky and Erica, who meet, fall in love, and go through all the trials and tribulations of marriage and building a family. Pause. Rewind. Fast forward. And hold on to “A Well-Written, Engaging Portrayal Of Smart Women Finding Themselves And Each Other” (The New Yorker).

5. THE WOLF AT THE END OF THE BLOCK

SETTING: Various locations in Chicago

Have you ever entered a world where nothing is as it seems? Abe, a resident of the Rightlynd neighborhood of Chicago, seeks justice after a mysterious, late-night attack at a boarded-up bar. In the next 48 hours, the neighborhood digs deep into escalating mystery, working against time to separate fact from fiction. But as the clock ticks down, the media gets involved, and what began as a simple mystery quickly twists into a personal, pointed and political thriller. A modern-day neo-noir, The Wolf at the End of the Block is “A Modern Masterpiece” (New City).

ABE: m, 30’s, Latino. Stammers, but dedicated. Never knows what to do with his body. Honest to a point, cares for his family and friends, quick temper; always on the bottom but won’t give up.

MIRANDA: f, 20’s Latina. Abe’s sister. Finally escaping from a messed up past; over energetic and eager to fight for any cause. Thirsty for the next step. Loves her brother something fierce. Kind and approachable but will lay down the law without question.

NUNLEY: m, 30’-40’s. s. Black. Owns a deli. Abe’s boss. Guy’s guy, fast talking, people person, aggressive and territorial. Big Brother to those without.

JAMES: m, 40’s-50’s. White. Cop. Nice guy. Plays dumb. Fiercely intelligent. Old school Chicago. Drinks too much beer. Physically imposing but strangely conversational. Wants to do the right thing, even if it’s wrong. Never has to shout; there is no question of his authority.

FRIDA: f, 30’s-40’s Latina. Reporter/Journalist. Free spirit who’s a bit broken down by the system. Has to fight for everything, even when the stakes are low. Knows what she wants. Smooth talker until she needs to strike hard and fast. Can read the instructions on the back of a cereal box and make it sound like an expose.


5. LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL

SETTING: A seedy Jazz club in Philadelphia

Have you ever witnessed an icon? Theatrical Outfit will once again be transformed into a 1950s Philadelphia jazz bar where the legendary Billie Holiday is giving one of her final performances. As she wows audiences with her iconic hits, Billie shares bittersweet stories about her life, painting a riveting and moving portrait of the lady whose music wove pain into beauty. Broadway’s Terry Burrell returns with a tour-de-force performance featuring more than a dozen of Holiday's beloved songs, including Strange Fruit, What a Moonlight Can Do, and more. You are in for an “Original And Riveting” evening (The London Times).
