BREAKDOWN
THE JERUSALEM SYNDROME
SEEKING:
[CHARLES] THIS ROLE IS CAST. Mid to late 30s, African American. A gay furniture designer with a strong sense of pride, undercut by unresolved father-son issues. Wide range of comedy to serious, with very strong vocal requirements. Becomes Jesus Christ. Tenor with high gospel belt.
[PHYLLIS] THIS ROLE IS CAST. Late 40s, Caucasian. A smart, funny Columbia College professor struggling to regain her husband’s affections, while dealing with menopause at the same time. Becomes Sarah, Abraham’s wife. Alto with strong mix.
[RENA] THIS ROLE IS CAST. Early 30s, Israeli. A nurse in the hospital psych ward. Beautiful, sassy and obsessed with soap opera hunks. Has strong comedic ability and powerful vocal range. Soprano with high belt/mix.
[MICKEY] THIS ROLE IS CAST. Early to mid 30s, Caucasian. Handsome soap opera star who has changed his name from Michael Rosenberg to Mickey Rose. He becomes Abraham and sets out to father the Jewish people. Baritone.
[EDDIE] THIS ROLE IS CAST. Late 20s, Caucasian. A first-time tour guide leader who can’t quite get it right. Strong physical comedy, prat-falls, as well as dance ability as he transforms into a “Gene Kelly” confident leader. Becomes Moses. Bari/Tenor.
[ALAN] Early 50s, Caucasian. Total workaholic who is glued to his cell phone. Married to Phyllis, he’s a genuinely good guy who finally receives the wake-up call he needs to save his marriage. Baritone.
[LYNN] THIS ROLE IS CAST. Mid to late 20s, Caucasian. Quirky version of the girl-next-door, she transforms from a door mat into God Almighty, herself. Strong comedic ability. Mezzo-Soprano with strong mix.
[DR. BEN ZION] THIS ROLE IS CAST. 40s to 60s, Israeli doctor. The head of the hospital pysch ward, he takes his job seriously but sees the funny side of the Syndrome as well. Strong comic timing. Bari/bass.
ALL ENSEMBLE ROLES ARE CURRENTLY CAST. The following ensemble roles require strong comedic singers. Each ensemble member plays multiple parts, with the primary roles indicated below.
Mary #1 and Mrs. Frankel, a senior citizen tourist: Female, Caucasian, 30s to 60s. John the Baptist and Mr. Goldblum, a senior citizen tourist: Male, Caucasian 40s to 60s.
King David, Mr. Lowenstein (a senior citizen tourist) and Father Bernard (a priest at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre): Male, Caucasian 30s to 60s
Eve and Mrs. Lowenstein, a senior citizen tourist: Female, Caucasian, 30s to 60s. Mary #2/Mrs. Randolph: Female, African American, 30s to 40s.
Mr. Murphy/Noah: Male, African American 30s to 40s
