As part of a pilot program created in the new agreement for Production: Broadway and Sit Downs, the employer will accept 126 video submissions from Equity members. Members will sign up online for one of the 126 slots. Only members who get one of the 126 slots will receive a confirmation e-mail with the preparation and submission information. After members' submissions have been viewed, the employer will notify each member who viewed their audition.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

SMASH (Broadway)

SMASH is an original musical comedy set in the present day, about the misadventures - both on and off stage - during the rehearsal of a new musical entitled “Bombshell, the Marilyn Monroe story”.

Actively seeking diversity of every kind and in every role; trans, gender non-conforming, and actors with disabilities of every ethnicity are encouraged to attend.

SEEKING:

Karen – character portrayed is female, early-mid-30s, any ethnicity. A triplethreat who’s understudied IVY for four shows. She knows Ivy, she’s thought of as an “Ivy Type”, and she’s earned her living for a dozen years, watching her in rehearsal and preparing to go on for her. In Bombshell, she finally thinks she’s going to get her chance. Married to Charlie. A STRONG DANCER AS THIS ROLE IS PART OF

ALL OF THE “BOMBSHELL PRODUCTION NUMBERS, AND HAS STRONG COMEDIC SKILLS. ABLE TO BELT THE SONG “DON’T FORGET ME”

Anita – character portrayed is female, 50s-60s. Former Fosse dancer turned powerhouse Broadway producer. Confident and smart. A long and colorful history with Broadway in general and with Nigel in specific.

Jerry – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is male, 30s-40s. Composer of Bombshell and several other celebrated musicals. Married to Tracy, his long-time collaborator. Opinionated, but wary of confrontation. Anxious.

Ivy Lynn – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is female, 30s-40s. A triple-threat Broadway Star at the height of her career with millions of adoring fans. Bright, funny, slightly intimidating. Passionate about the work. Fully immerses herself in her character - this becomes a problem.

Chloe – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is female, 30s. Former dancer/singer/actress now associate Director. Nigel’s right hand. Smart, knows how to take her status.

Nigel – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is male, 50s-60s. Successful director/choreographer of Broadway musicals. Sarcastic, somewhat world-weary. Has seen it all and done it all. Once a dancer in the ensemble, he clawed his way out to become a director.

Tracy – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is female, 30s-40s. Lyricist/book writer of Bombshell and several other celebrated musicals. Married to her long-time collaborator, Jerry. Smart, politically and culturally astute, prone to confrontation.

Susan – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is female, 60s-70s. Teacher at the Actor’s Studio. Legendary practitioner of the Method. Dresses in black. Emotes frequently. Demands total commitment from her students. Ivy’s coach/mentor/Svengali.

Scott – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is male, 20s. The son of a wealthy investor. Knows nothing about musicals. Gradually becomes addicted to the backstage drama.

Charlie – THE ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. character portrayed is male, 30s. Handsome actor/singer/dancer. Plays Joe DiMaggio in Bombshell. Easy going and well-liked but fiercely protective of his wife, Karen.
