Seeking Equity actors for roles in Chautauqua Theater Company’s 2026 season (see breakdown). EPA procedures are in effect for this audition. An Equity Monitor will be provided.

Please prepare a 1–2 minute contemporary monologue. Selection could be from any published Sharyn Rothstein play, but it is not required. Always bring your Equity Membership card to auditions.

CASTING NOTE

The play can be cast with all women and non-binary people, or women, non-binary people and men. If a character's race is not noted below, they may be played by any actor. This production will have a cast of 8, with most roles doubling/tripling.

SEEKING

  • JOHNSON — a 138-year-old corporation dressed like an adult baby. Any gender, or none. Mostly performs masculinity, just like they're performing human.
  • HAVEN — a nurse (mid-20s in Part One; mid-60s in Part Two).
  • JOYCE — a community organizer who will become a secretary, Maya's mother. Black. (mid-20s in Part One; mid-60s in Part Two).
  • MAYA — Joyce's daughter, born in 1971. Black or bi-racial. We follow her throughout her life. (May double as Dr. Robert Schaffer or Jim in Part One.)
  • EVERETT ED KAVANAUGH — White, Head of the Cosmetics & Fragrances Trade Association. (May double as Dr. Kligman and Dan Davis in Part Two.)
  • MARTHA KAVANAUGH — his wife, mother to Brett, White, appointed to the Montgomery County Circuit Court in 1995. (May double as Deane Berg and Christine Owen in Part Two.)
  • BILLY — Black, a Holmesburg prison inmate. (May double as Dr. Robert Schaffer or Jim and Amos and Class Action lawyer in Part Two.)
  • DR. ALBERT KLIGMAN — White, Professor of Dermatology, University of Pennsylvania.
  • DEANE BERG — early 50s, White, a real woman, a fighter.
  • AMOS — Maya's future husband.
  • CHRISTINE YANG SLACKMAN — Asian American, head of Self-Care for Johnson & Johnson. (May double as Leslie in Part Two.)
  • CHRISTINE OWEN — SVP Finance, Johnson & Johnson.
  • DAN DAVIS — Assistant General Counsel for Johnson & Johnson.
  • LESLIE — a Moody's ratings analyst.
  • DR. ROBERT SCHAFFER / JIM / CLASS ACTION LAWYER — may be doubled by a variety of the other actors.

Chautauqua Theater Company will not be far enough along in the planning process for our new play workshops by the date of our EPAs. These developmental projects depend heavily on the availability of playwrights, whose schedules and readiness to commit cannot be finalized until closer to the summer season. While we do not have titles or character breakdowns to share at this time, we can guarantee that there will be Equity roles in all three New Play Workshops and thank the membership for their patience.
