THE PEOPLE VERSUS LENNY BRUCE
SEEKING:
LENNY BRUCE
Smart, energetic, able to convey the comedic side as well as the darker side. Warm, vulnerable and charming as a person and yet, as a performer he needs to push the envelope as much as possible. Late 30s–early 40s.
RICHARD KUH
Prosecuting attorney. Tough. Wants to get the job done at any cost. Age: 50s–60s.
MINISTER JOHNSON
Very articulate. Loves language. Has a wonderful sense of humor. Is a fan of Lenny Bruce. Age: 50s–70s.
ALREADY CAST ROLES:
Narrator — CAST. This character is based on the leading first amendment lawyer Marty Garbus. Age: 70s. He is smart, thoughtful, and at the top of his game. Though tough in the courtroom, he is softer and extremely compassionate on a personal level.
Dorothy Kilgallen — CAST. Based on the acclaimed journalist and TV personality. Age: 50s. She is witty and articulate. Though she was considered very conservative, she was a big fan of Lenny Bruce.
Jules Feiffer — CAST. Based on the award-winning writer and cartoonist. Age: 50s–60s. He clearly loves language and speaks in a measured manner, carefully articulating each of his thoughts. Another fan of Lenny Bruce.
Herbert S. Ruhe — CAST. Based on a witness for the prosecution, a former CIA agent. Age: 50s–60s. He is tough, without a great deal of integrity. Even though he knows he is lying when questioned, the truth is clearly not a priority.
