$514 weekly minimum (Ref. LORT) - Every hour over 29 hours per week will be paid at $18/hour; includes pension and health. Special expenses (i.e. transportation) are open for negotiation for actors who self-identify as disabled.

SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in RICHARD III (See breakdown).

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief cut of a monologue from a historical or dramatic Shakespeare play. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

Rehearsals: (Central Park, 10am-3:30pm); also selected daytime tech rehearsals in other venues, such as the Brooklyn Commons at Metrotech and Carl Schurz Park at East 87th x East End Avenue).

Performances: (Central Park, Brooklyn Commons (Metrotech), and Carl Schurz Park. All performances will be 7-9pm.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

SEEKING:

7 performers who are women, gender non-conforming, and/or non binary. Roles will require fighting (eg broadsword) and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare. In addition to the major roles listed below, additional smaller parts may be assigned as the project develops further.

Track 1 Richard (mid 30s to mid 40s, woman, gender non conforming, and/or non binary): CAST - Son of Duchess of York and brother to Clarence and Edward IV. He marries Anne early in the play. Smart, magnetic, funny, regal, eloquent, self-centered, manipulative, cruel, and extremely determined. This performer will only play Richard. This role requires fighting and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare.

Track 2 (50s+, woman, gender non conforming, and/or non binary) Doubles as: Hastings: Lord Chamberlain of England, powerful, grounded, political, and overly self-assured. Clarence: Brother of Richard and son of Duchess of York, weak-minded, desperate, will do or say anything to get their way. These roles require fighting and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare.

Track 3 (40s+, woman, gender non conforming, and/or non binary) Doubles as: King Edward: Older brother of Richard and son of Duchess of York, married to Queen Elizabeth and father of Prince Edward and Princess Elizabeth. King of England following defeat of Henry VI, once strong now quite ill, trying to maintain power but come to an early death in Act 1. Stanley: Earl of Derby, step-father of Richmond, seasoned statesman and advisor to King Edward and later then King Richard, self-preservationist, deeply concerned about his family and his principles, later betrays Richard. These roles require fighting and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare.

Track 4 (early to mid 20s, woman, gender non conforming, and/or non binary) Doubles as: Lady Anne: Daughter-in-law of Henry VI and later married to Richard, angry, passionate, later defeated. Prince Edward: Son and heir of King Edward and Queen Elizabeth, idealistic, open, and trusting of his elders. These roles require fighting and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare.

Track 5 (50s+, woman, gender non conforming, and/or non binary) Doubles as: Duchess of York: Mother of King Edward, Clarence, and Richard, proud, haughty, cruel, and will do or say anything to maintain her grasp of power. Sir Richard Ratcliffe: One of Richard’s henchmen, he will betray his own values and commit murder on Richard’s behalf for the sake of power. These roles require fighting and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare.

Track 6 (mid 30s-40s, woman, gender non conforming, and/or non binary) Doubles as: Queen Elizabeth: Wife of Edward IV, mother to Prince Edward and Princess Elizabeth, passionate, focused, and determined. She will do anything to save her family. Tyrell: Murderer of Prince Edward, ambitious, desperate, riddled with guilt. These roles require fighting and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare.

Track 7 (early 30s-40s, woman, gender non conforming, and/or non binary) Doubles as: Rivers: Brother to Queen Elizabeth, uncle to Prince Edward and Princess Elizabeth, heroic, proud, determined. Buckingham: Duke of England, commanding, highly political, later deeply regretful of his actions taken on behalf of Richard. Richmond: Stepson of Stanley, later married to Princess Elizabeth and becomes Henry VII, heroic, passionate, inspirational. These roles require fighting and will be played as the gender described by Shakespeare.
