JANIS JOPLIN
Late 20s. The music legend. Age portrayed in the show is 27 years old. Great, authentic rock & roll voice. Must be a natural actress, highly charismatic, and appealing to audience with vocal stamina. Must genuinely channel this rock legend, without impersonation. Guitar skills a plus but not required.
TO PREPARE: Prepare a blues/rock song in the style of Janis Joplin’s repertoire.
THE BLUES SINGER
Late 20s-Early 40s African-American Female. Character vocally portrays Ms. Joplin’s musical icons over the years including: Etta James, Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Odetta, Big Mama Thornton, and Aretha Franklin. Not looking for impersonators. Strong Blues, Rock, and Legit vocal skills required.
TO PREPARE: Prepare a blues/rock song in the style of Etta James and Aretha Franklin.

THE KOZMIC THRILLS
Late 20s-Mid 30s, any ethnicity. A 3-member backing vocal group. Looking for strong singers to support the leading cast and cover the principal tracks. Movement required. Two of the members will serve as alternates for Janis Joplin and the Blues Singer (See above).
TO PREPARE: Prepare appropriate material for roles as listed above.
Alternates are guaranteed 2 performances a week after official opening.
